“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” —Barack Obama
It’s someone else’s problem. Politics control too much. There’s too many hurdles and red tape to make an actual impact.
Excuses for progress will always be abundant. There’s never a shortage of those that can point out problems. Shortage does exist for those willing to raise their hand and jump in to find solutions. With how fast pace our world is and the infinite access to information, the words “I have no opportunities” should never see light. Opportunities are all around us to work towards a better future for ourselves and for those around us. To maximize opportunities, two key pieces stand out:
- Must be open minded enough to realize the opportunity presented.
- Must take the uncomfortable step into the opportunity while many around you will be pushing away.
We can choose 2 games to play: 1) blame game or 2) accountability game. When we play the accountability game, we take responsibility for the opportunities that can make a difference. We create momentum and a model of the change we seek to make a better future. Playing the accountability game allows us to maximize opportunities that are waiting for us to make an impact on our own growth and the growth of others.
Take your step: this week reflect on what in life you feel you’re waiting on something else to happen before you go grab that opportunity. Opportunity at work, opportunity to get on a better workout plan, opportunity to volunteer in the community, etc. Shift the mind to playing the accountability game and own being the change you want to see.
