Sometimes it’s just fun being a kid. And let’s face it, we could all use a little more kid in us.
To celebrate my wife’s 40th and bring an incredible experience to the family, we ventured off to London and Paris over the kids’ spring break.
One of the spots we eyed for our first leg of the trip was Buckingham Palace. Model of royalty and prestige with beauty in every direction. And here are my kids running around playing tag. Yes, the royal family would be extremely impressed with the intensity of the game between my son and daughter.
Part of the second leg of our trip was Paris and exploring the Louvre Museum. Priceless works of art in arguably the greatest display of various forms of artwork in the world. Mona Lisa, statues of Greek Gods, some of the most expensive jewelry in the world. Oh, and a couple kids from Iowa having a race to see who can get to the stairs the fastest.
Part of my initial reaction of each of these moments was to restrain my kids from running crazy and have them fall more in line with what I viewed as an expectation in areas like Buckingham Palace and the Louvre. But the more I thought about it, the more I loved seeing their natural kid come out and just enjoy the moment in the way they know how to enjoy it.
Our family was lucky enough to have a lot of these in the moment type memories. Just soaking the fun in from the eyes of a kid. Not following a model of how it’s supposed to be. Instead, letting the moment happen naturally. This 6- and 8-year-old always do a great job reminding me to see the world with the kid lens every once in a while. Sometimes it good to just let the moment happen the way it’s intended to and enjoy what this moment brings you.
Cheers to remembering the kid’s lens more often!
